Chinese naval ship docks at Muara Port

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN : The People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) training ship, Qi Jiguang (Hull 83), docked at the Muara Port on Monday (June 5) with 500 people and with a lion dance troupe greeting its arrival.

Ambassador-designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo attended along with Defence Attache of the Chinese Embassy, Senior Colonel Dai Qilin and Assistant Chief of Staff Capability and Development of the Royal Brunei Navy Commander Shahairil Mohd Shahlan as well as the RBN brass band.

Disembarking from the ship were Political Commissar of the PLAN Dalian Naval Academy Rear Admiral Su Yinsheng, Deputy Superintendent of PLAN Dalian Naval Academy Senior Captain and Commander of Training Ship Detachment Chen Denan, CO of PLAN Ship Qi Jiguang Captain Feng Liang and Political Commissar of PLAN Ship Qi Jiguang Captain Kang Junwei.

The ship is open to the public today from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 5pm and tomorrow from 9am to 11am and 3pm to 5pm. There will be training sessions between personnel of Qi Jiguang and the Royal Brunei Navy on June 8.

The personnel will hold a beach clean-up with personnel of Royal Brunei Navy tomorrow at Serasa Beach.

The PLAN Ship Qi Jiguang had set sail from a military port in Dalian on May 15, with 476 naval cadets and sailors onboard, to conduct cadet training and visits to Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines.

The voyage marks the ship’s third navigation training and visit since its commission in 2017.

Qi Jiguang will depart from Brunei on Thursday.
