JAKARTA: Foreign arrivals to Indonesia in April were down 0.39% compared with the previous month due to slow demand during the Islamic fasting period, according to data from the statistics bureau.

The South-East Asian country recorded 865,810 tourist arrivals in April versus a revised number in March of 869,243, data showed.

In April last year, foreign arrivals stood at 230,080 because coronavirus restrictions were just starting to ease.

“Tourists from Malaysia declined (in April) as they were in the (Ramadan) fasting period,” Pudji Ismartini, deputy head of Statistics Indonesia, told a press conference.
