BANGKOK, June 6 -- Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC) said on Tuesday it expects a zero or up to 1 percent growth for the country's export this year, with drags from slowing global demand and economic uncertainties.

Export, a main driver of economic growth for the Southeast Asian country, could shrink between 5 percent and 6 percent year-on-year in the first half of the year before improving in the second half, said council chairman Chaichan Chareonsuk.

The council expects to see an expansion of certain agricultural and food product shipments in the second half of 2023, helped by last year's low comparative base, Chaichan told a news conference.

In a statement, the TNSC forecast the export to expand by 0.6 percent and 12 percent year-on-year in the third and final quarters of this year, respectively.
