KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): The Dewan Rakyat's second meeting of the second session of the 15th Parliament will now be held from May 22 to June 15, having been brought forward from June.
"It was originally scheduled for June 12 to 27," Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul announced on Wednesday (March 22).
He made the announcement during the debate session on the Supply Bill 2023 in the committee stage for the Ministry of Transport in the Dewan Rakyat.
Johari said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the leader of the House had agreed to the change, in line with Standing Order 11(2) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
"This follows my request to the PM, because many MPs will be performing the haj in Makkah his year, and need to make appropriate preparations, as Aidiladha is expected to fall on June 29, 2023," he said.
The first meeting of the lower house ends on April 4.
