KUALA LUMPUR: Home buyers who are dissatisfied with the quality of their housing projects can refer to the relevant tribunal, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Local Government Development Minister said the process to lodge a claim with a tribunal is easy and does not even require a lawyer.

He said 39 presidents were appointed to the Home Buyers Claims Tribunal and the Strata Management Tribunal.

He said the tribunals had a stellar track record where close to 100% of the cases have been resolved.

“According to a report I received, in the past two years, almost 40,000 cases have been received and the remainder of unresolved cases is close to zero with 99.52% of the cases filed fully settled within the prescribed period,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the appointment ceremony of the ministry’s panel of experts.

He said the prescribed period for the resolution of cases is 120 days for the Home Buyers Claims Tribunal and 150 days for the Strata Management Tribunal.

“So any aggrieved parties who are dissatisfied can always file a claim,” he said.

He was commenting on a recent media report on the poor condition of a housing project where buyers voiced their unhappiness with the quality.

The report also claimed that the developer had delayed the repair work in the hope that the defect liability period would expire.
