KUALA LUMPUR (March 23): The National Action Plan for Senior Citizens (NAPSrC) is being reviewed to strengthen the aspects of the care and welfare of the group with Malaysia becoming an ageing nation by  2030, the Dewan Negara was told on Thursday (March 23).

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said in view of that, the ministry will seek the views and input from relevant agencies for the formulation of the 2023-2030 NAPSrC.

"In line with current and future needs, the National Policy for Senior Citizens (DWEN) and NAPSrC are the government's commitment to creating independent, dignified and respected senior citizens by optimising their potential through healthy, positive, active, productive and supportive aging to improve their well-being,” she said,

She was responding to a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai during the oral question and answer session.

Lau wanted to know the government's actions and approach in facing the expectation of the country becoming an ageing nation.

Nancy said the ministry was also conducting a study to formulate a special law for senior citizens in Malaysia.

"We have also drafted the Senior Citizens Bill which is aimed at protecting the well-being of older people,” she added.
