KUALA LUMPUR: Ayer Hitam member of parliament Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has lodged a police report against businessman Deepak Jaikishan over an issue concerning imported eggs from India.
In a video recording on his Facebook page, Wee said he lodged the report at the Cheras police station at 1am on Wednesday.
Wee said he had received two calls from a man who introduced himself as Deepak from J&E Advanced Tech Sdn Bhd, asking Wee to apologise for his recent statements in Dewan Rakyat about imported eggs from India.
"Before this, on March 17, 2023 (last Friday), I challenged Deepak Jaikishan to lodge a police report after he denied calling me twice on March 13 at 9.51am and 9.52am, respectively.
"I had given him three days to make the police report to clear his name (insert hyperlink: https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2023/03/889701/wee-deepak-lodge-polic...).
"Since he had failed to do so, I lodged a police report as promised," he said.
Wee also expressed his hope that no one should use the Prime Minister's Office's name to intimidate an MP, who is granted immunity to speak in Dewan Rakyat as stipulated under Section 63 of the Federal Constitution.
"The caller claimed that the PMO had given the 'go-ahead' for me to apologise.
"But I refused to do so. The person tried to intimidate me using the PMO's name, and when I brought the matter up in the Dewan Rakyat, Deepak denied the whole thing.
"Any form of abuse of the PMO's name is much regretted. I will let the police investigate this matter." he added.
