KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan plans to contest in all six state elections which are expected to be held soon.

Its president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau said the party had submitted 70 names to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council for consideration.

He said discussions on the seat allocation for the state elections have been held with the coalition partners.

"We have sent about 70 names for the state elections. Gerakan will continue to be relevant with strong principles and will fulfill all its promises if given the mandate in the upcoming elections," said Lau after the party's 51st National Delegate Conference.

He said this in response to a statement by DAP secretary general Anthony Loke who said Gerakan should be dissolved because it did not get any mandate from the people following defeats in the last few elections.

Lau said Gerakan is not like DAP that won the people's mandate by lying and making empty promises.

"Before the election, they said they wanted to recognise the Unified Education Certificate (UEC), abolish the University and University Colleges Act (AUKU) and hold local government elections.

"Where are these promises? These lies were made to win the people's mandate...they were silent after winning," said Lau.
