PETALING JAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB), one of the main revenue collection agencies under the Finance Ministry, paid a corporate visit to Media Prima Bhd (MPB) at Sri Pentas today.

MPB group chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussian Aljunid, MPB group managing director Rafiq Razali and New Straits Times Press group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman were on hand to welcome IRB chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Nizom Sairi and his delegation.

Mohd Nizom and his representatives were given a brief corporate presentation on Media Prima's operations including its television and radio stations, newspapers as well as outdoor advertising.

They were also taken on a tour of the offices of Rev Media Group, the Media Prima Audio conty and Media Prima News and Editorial Operations.

Nizom said their aim was to gain an understanding of MPB's operations in order to explore possible areas of partnership.

These, he said, could include educating the public on the taxation ecosystem which is aligned to their Awareness, Education and Services (AES) initiative.

IRB, he said, is keen to change the people's perception from being an agency that chases tax evaders to one that provides services to the people.

"It is vital for us to get closer to the people and convey the message that we are not an enforcement agency but a service agency.

"We are doing it through the AES initiative and we hope to enhance this by disseminating information about our services and positive tax-related information through the media.

"Media Prima reaches out of to tens of millions of audiences a day and I see them as a highly effective channel to send messages to the public.

"InsyaAllah, IRB will explore any room for cooperation with MPB where we can benefit from the various media platforms from print, online to television," he said.

Syed Hussian said the corporate visit enabled the IRB and MPB leadership to strengthen their bond and also identify areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Also present from IRB were its corporate services department director Noraini Mustafa, tax operations director Shaharrudy Othman and IRB Selangor director Norisham Long.

Media Prima Omnia Sales Direct chief operating officer Mohd Efendi Omar said the right branding through proper platforms was the gateway to spreading awareness to the public.

"We can help IRB through our platforms such as branded interviews, digital brand integrations, news special reports, branded capsules, newspaper prints and static boards," said Efendi.
