PETALING JAYA: The Opposition should put aside its domestic political differences and support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on international affairs as represents all Malaysians, says senior PKR MP Hassan Abdul Karim (pic).

The Pasir Gudang MP said that the Opposition should not politicise the Prime Minister's official visit to Saudi Arabia.

"Anwar is not the Prime Minister only for Tambun or the unity government; he is the leader of all 33 million Malaysians, and he himself is a Malaysian citizen with honour and dignity.

"Anyone who has played on this fiasco and made embarrassing comments about the Prime Minister should be ashamed of themselves," he said in a statement.

This comes after Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said that Anwar should explain to Parliament why a meeting between him and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud did not take place.

In a statement issued last Saturday (March 25), Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said that the meeting of the two Prime Ministers was scheduled earlier but there were no news reports about the event.

Wan Ahmad Fayshal then said that there was also no report stating that Anwar was invited to enter the Kaabah, as should be the usual courtesy given to a state leader on an official visit to the holy city.

Wan Fayhsal added that such treatment was given to former Malaysian prime ministers Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal claimed that Anwar had also failed to meet up with his counterpart in Saudi Arabia's Finance Ministry during his trip.

On this, Hassan said that Malaysians should direct their anger towards Mohammed Salman and King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud if Anwar was embarrassed by the Saudi royal family.

He added that there was a breach of protocol by the Saudi government during the visit and added that this should not be used by the Opposition.

Anwar visited Saudi Arabia recently on March 22 and departed on March 24 and according to a statement issued by Wisma Putra, the visit was at the invitation of the Saudi crown prince.

In the statement issued on March 23, Wisma Putra said that Anwar was to have audiences with both King Salman and Mohammed Salman.

However, such audiences were not granted at the time, and Anwar has since said that the Saudi government had requested he extend his trip to facilitate meetings with Saudi leaders but the Malaysian delegation had to decline due to obligations at home.
