KOTA KINABALU: Sepanggar member of parliament Mustapha Sakmud has urged his constituents to use proper channels instead of demonstrating over water woes.

He is referring to a poster indicating that the people from Sepanggar will protest at Sabah Water department headquarters scheduled for 10am today.

"I urge groups who plan to demonstrate in front of the Water department headquarters to voice their concerns through proper channels.

"The real issue behind the water crisis in Sepanggar is the insufficient water supply from the Telibong and Moyog water treatment plants, which are both operating beyond their capacity.

"The water supply augmentation project known as Telibong 2, which is currently under implementation, has been delayed from its original schedule and needs to be completed as soon as possible to increase supply," he said in a statement.

Mustapha, who is also deputy Human Resources minister, also suggested that those who want to demonstrate should engage in discussion with the Department of Water and listen to the briefing on the water issue.

He also called for a dialogue session to be held so that everyone would understand the real issue and the reasons for the delay in the project.
