KUALA LUMPUR: Police have submitted investigation papers regarding reports of opposition groups planning to overthrow the unity government.
In a written reply, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the police conducted investigations based on two reports filed against two Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders.
The duo in question are Arau member of parliament Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Shahidan was investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for his statement regarding plans to topple the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Abdul Hadi was investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for a video in which he expressed his desire to overthrow the existing government through the country's democratic system.
"Both investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney General's Office for further instructions," he said.
He made this statement in response to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) regarding the government's actions against parties, including members of parliament, who are actively involved in plotting to overthrow the current unity government and making seditious statements.
