KUALA LUMPUR: Weeks after being offered a membership in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Khairy Jamaluddin yesterday said he will provide his 'final answer' to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin next week.

Khairy, who was dismissed by Umno in January this year, said he has informed Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein about his upcoming meeting with Muhyiddin.

"I have informed him (Hishammuddin) that I will meet Muhyiddin next week to give a final answer (regarding the invitation to join Bersatu)," Khairy said during the 'Keluar Sekejap' podcast, which was aired yesterday and co-hosted by former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan.

When asked by Shahril if there could be a 'preview' of the 'answer', Khairy said he would like to keep the final decision to himself for now.

In May, Muhyiddin admitted that he had offered Khairy a leadership position in the Bersatu supreme council.

Muhyiddin said Khairy, a former member of parliament for Rembau, was invited to join the party due to his potential to contribute and strengthen Bersatu's position, in addition to his capabilities as a young political leader.

Muhyiddin had previously said he did not want to pressure Khairy for an immediate response, as he hoped that Khairy would choose to join the party.
