PAS No. 2 berates unity gov’t for leveraging the police to clamp down on freedom of speech

PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has taken a jibe at the unity government for behaving like the police given its high tendency of ordering investigations and finds fault with political opponents over ‘petty’ matters.

As a matter of fact, the Kubang Kerian MP claimed that the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) coalition has been proactively carrying out various political actions aimed at covering up weaknesses and finding an escape route from the issues and problems faced.

As an example, Tuan Ibrahim deemed as excessive the lodging of police report and subsequently getting the Attorney-General to initiate legal action against Kedah Menteri Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter’s statement about Kedah’s ownership of Penang given “it is a proven historical fact”.

“Do you need the police to investigate that, too? Before this, many university professors have also come out with similar statements. Such action is nothing more than to cover up the government’s weakness,” HarakahDaily quoted Tuan Ibrahim as saying after inaugurating the Isra’ Malaysia Foundation’s administration and management office in Mentaloon, Alor Setar today.

“Young people who make TikTok postings are also hauled up. Likewise, statements made by our Tok Guru president (Tan Sri Hadi Awang) and Tun Dr Mahathir (Mohamad) also need to be investigated. It’s as if the existing government wants to investigate everyone.”

Added the former environment and water minister: “Even for the slightest of opposition, the police will be prompted to open an investigation file and so on. This comes at a time when the people want to see what is the action to deal with the cost of living now? Or what action plan can be implemented?

On this note, Tuan Ibrahim urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a key leader to fulfil his responsibilities by acting fairly because such is the basis of leadership value in Islam.

“It shouldn’t be the case that because (we are) his (political) opponents, not even a sen is forked out for opposition MPs. We pray that what had happened will cause the people to continue to be strong with us, God willing,” he added. - June 9, 2023
