GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will seek an audience with Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on June 27 to dissolve the state legislative assembly.

Chow said the state assembly would only be dissolved once the state receives the Governor's consent.

"I will seek an audience with the governor first before the dissolution," he said.

On whether to include a representative from Umno in the state government after state polls, Chow said the matter would be subject to state election result.

"If they do not win, then they won't be selected in the state executive council line-up. The state does not have any laws to appoint someone with no seat," he said.

Chow was commenting on Umno's president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's request to include Umno representatives in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan governments after state polls.

On seat talks with Barisan Nasional, Chow said the final decision would be made by the presidential council.

On Thursday (June 8) Chow announced that the state assembly would be dissolved on June 28. He said the date would be proposed to the Governor soon.

Six states – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan – did not dissolve their state assemblies before the 15th General Election on Nov 19, 2022.

The Election Commission had said the six states should hold the polls simultaneously, adding that holding it together would cost RM450mil.

Parties and coalitions from both sides of the divide have agreed to hold the elections for all six states simultaneously.

The Selangor state assembly automatically dissolves on June 26, Kelantan on June 28, Terengganu on July 1 and Kedah on July 4.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan's assembly is expected to be dissolved on June 30.
